Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) is an application programming interface (API) for the programming language Java, which defines how a client may access a database.

Currently could be downloaded from here.

Question Scott Roth · Oct 21, 2021

Once a week we are attempting to load an XML file from Workday into a MS SQL table using JDBC and Store Procedures. There is approx 102999 records in this XML file. We are struggling with processing the entire file within a reason amount of time. We feed the XML through a BPL to then populate values in a stored procedure then call the stored procedure through a Business Operation. I have tried splitting out the Business Operations to make two calls, but we still continue to see an issue loading the XML into MS SQL.

LS,

I'm executing a query using JDBC on a PostgreSQL db:

SET statement_timeout TO 600000000; COMMIT SELECT * FROM bi_hour

The query is aborted with the following message:

FOUT #5023: Fout in Java Gateway: JDBC Gateway getClob(0,2) errorBad value for type long : active

The column 'blocked_status' contains the value 'active' is of type 'text'. I figure somewhere the SQL Gateway tries to convert the text value into a long but I can't find where, any suggestions?

Intro

In a fast-paced digital era, effective communication is crucial. This article introduces a Java-based chat project, combining the strength of IRIS database and ChatGPT intelligence. Built on Java, it goes beyond real-time messaging, leveraging IRIS and ChatGPT for an enhanced chat experience. Also, the name of the project references the cultural classic - Star Wars.

Building Application

Building our dynamic chat application involves a seamless integration of key components and technologies. Java serves as the heart that drives server-side logic and business operations.

Has anyone successfully tested the new THROUGH command in IRIS 2024.2 with a FOREIGN SERVER?https://docs.intersystems.com/iris20242/csp/docbook/Doc.View.cls?KEY=RS…

I have connected from a Docker instance to a VM. I was able to successfully set up the JDBC connection through the UI.

I then configured a foreign server with this connection:

But I am unable to send a SQL 'THROUGH' to the DB. I always get a:

I've get the same message if i try it via Management Portal.
I've also tried this:

and this

Always with the same error.

I am under the impression that inside HealthShare you can Services, Processes, and Operations. The service takes incoming data, the processes can process that data, and then the operations can send that data out.

I am curious if anyone has any experience, guides, or advice on how I can send data to a service using a Java application. I intend for the data to be in XML format. I am also curious if I succeed at picking up the data in the service, how I send the data back to the Java application using an Operation.

As of now I am attempting to get this to work on a local environment.

Introduction

Managing databases and performing CRUD operations are fundamental tasks for developers building data-driven applications. While many database management systems (DBMS) exist, they can be complex and cumbersome to interact with, especially when it comes to creating databases and tables, handling constraints, and performing real-time data operations through an API.

This web-based Database Management Tool simplifies the entire process, offering an intuitive UI for managing databases and tables, alongside a powerful REST API for interacting with the data.

I have a case where I need to look up the NPI provider against an External MS SQL database to retrieve our Provider Identifier to send to a downstream system. In the past I would use a Business Process (BPL) to connect to the outside MS SQL via JDBC and get that information for me. But I was thinking instead of creating a BPL process to do this, would it be better just to link to the outside MS SQL database table to retrieve the information in a SQL statement within a DTL?

So it is better to link to an outside database via a Linked Table wizard?

We are planning to build a REST API with the Java Quarkus Framework.

  • There'll be a connection pool;
  • The DataSource instance will be automatically injected from the connection pool;
  • We will use JDBI to do SQL instructions and this will give us automatic Connection and Statement management;

This Caché instance already have COS applications running and consuming connections and licenses.

After doing this, we will migrate to IRIS.

Is there any pitfalls that we must be aware before taking this approach?

If you want to see some code the PoC can be found here.

Thanks.

Hello,

I work on deploying IRIS using Kubernetes operator and Red Hat OpenShift. I encouraged another team working on Java application to consider using IRIS as database. My team deployed IRIS cluster using two mirrored data pods for the other team. The other team asked me for the connection information.

To learn how to use Java with IRIS, I attempted to deploy two apps from Open Exchange:

https://openexchange.intersystems.com/package/CRUD-GLOBALS-IRISNATIVEAP…

Here I got errors like this:

package com.intersystems.jdbc does not  exist

https://openexchange.intersystems.

One of our apps uses a class query to support a ZEN Report and works just fine in that report, producing the expected results every time. We’ve since migrated to InterSystems Reports and noticed that, for a report using the same class query, 100s of extra rows with the same column values appear at its bottom.

We eliminated InterSystems Reports as the source of the problem by recreating the same “extra rows” issue with an Excel spreadsheet calling the same class query as a stored procedure.

What was the issue?

I am trying to pinpoint and troubleshoot an issue we have been seeing lately. We have several SQL Outbound Adapter Operations that are seeing issues trying to connect to our MS SQL Servers using the JDBC Gateway for calling insert, select, update, and stored procedure calls.

Built in multi model integration using InterSystems iris data platform

Solution of hospital information inquiry business

Integration of hospital information query business solutions using InterSystems IRIS data platform with built-in multiple models

### Summary:

With the gradual improvement of hospital information construction, there are more and more hospital subsystems, and more and more interfaces between systems. At the same time, the interface cost is increasing, and the management work is becoming more and more complex.

The ideal number of table permissions to assign for your users is zero. Permissions should be granted upon sign-in based on the application used for access. For web applications, we have a simple way of doing this by appointing application roles, matching roles, and required resources in the System Management Portal.

ODBC and JDBC connections present a different problem, however, especially when third-party applications are involved. As providers of an ERP system, our customers often wish to be able to employ various software packages to integrate with or report on their data. Many of these programs are capable of running any kind of query. Yet, letting them do that can be devastating to a customer’s data.

Hi, I asked last week and they gave me some little tips. But the truth is I still can't carry out this "Project".

I must perform a REST service, using Oracle 11 database. Eh tried anyway to achieve this.

The purpose is to make a REST service, using the database provided to me and use the procedure that is already created.

According to what I read, I made the connection via JDBC and I had no major problem

Then I managed to read the bd inside iris and capture its procedure, but at the time of doing this. The procedure does not work correctly.

Tring to Performing following script in IRIS but do not know how to format Date. Normally, I would use TO_DATE or TO_TIMESTAMP in the actual queue statement below, but since I'm using Prepared Statements, I do not know how to format date in 'values' that is being used in the %Execute. It generates errors. I'm updating an Oracle Database via a SQL JDBC Gateway Connection. Does anyone know how to pass in Dates?

When using "IDENTITY" as my primary key, I can select the last inserted ID with

SELECT LAST_IDENTITY() FROM %TSQL_sys.snf;

Actually this is how Hibernate + Iris' Driver acquires the inserted ID when mapping with

@GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)

Now, considering that I am using the type "SERIAL" as my primary key instead, how can I get the last inserted ID?

Note that with "SERIAL" I can forcefully insert any value for this ID, from which Iris will continue generating values.

I'm using a JDBC driver to connect PGSQL -> Cache.  I'm noticing when I run SELECT queries and COUNT(*) command against the same table, I get different result sets.  I'm pretty new to Cache in general - so I'm trying to understand why these would be different.

Examples (TransID and InvNum should occur in every "row"):

SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ACCT.Services = 1,090,324 WHERE ACCT.Dept = 483

SELECT TransID FROM ACCT.Services = 1,085,776 WHERE ACCT.Dept = 483

SELECT InvNum FROM ACCT.Services = 586,023 WHERE ACCT.

I just wrote up a quick sample to help a colleague load data into IRIS from R using RJDBC, and figured it's worth sharing here for future reference.

Ultimately it was pretty simple, aside from IRIS not liking "." in column names; the workaround is to just rename the columns. Someone better at R than me could probably provide some generic approach. smiley

# Need a valid value for JAVA_HOME prior to calling library(RJDBC)

Question Kalle Päplow · Mar 29, 2023

Hello,

I have a question regarding the Intersystems Caché Database and its jdbc driver. I need to set the connection timeout for the database, but I couldn't find any documentation stating that the jdbc driver for Caché supports setting the connection timeout. However, I noticed that the jdbc driver for the Intersystems Iris Database appears to support this feature.

My question is, can I use the Iris jdbc driver to set the connection timeout for the Caché Database?

The jdbc driver I use: cache-jdbc-2.0.0.jar

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Kalle
