HL7 Interface Engineer

General Summary

The HL7 Interface Engineer is responsible for planning, creating, testing, and maintaining the HL7 messaging workflow in one of the nation’s largest radiology groups. You will work directly with the Sr. Interface Engineer, Integration Manager, Integration Engineers, and vendors to provide the very best health care experience for our customers and their patients.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds and tests TCP, file, REST, SQL etc. HL7 interfaces to and from customers and downstream systems
  • Builds and tests data transformations (DTL) for new and existing customers
  • Maintains the HealthShare interface engine (backups, access management, etc.)
  • Provides coding and programming as required
  • Develops and implements data queries and reports as needed
  • Coordinates the use of high-quality test plans
  • Assures data integrity and system survivability by developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans for the interface engine
  • Determines and defines necessary budget items to support assigned systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • 5 years’ experience with the HL7 protocol in a health care environment, particularly message types: ADT, ORM, and ORU, and all associated fields. Strong consideration for candidates with radiology HL7 messaging experience
  • 5 years’ experience building interfaces for health care clinical workflows, including transforming and sending messages to a variety of downstream systems such as PACS, dictation, billing, business analysis, RIS, HIS, EHR, etc.
  • 3 years’ experience daily maintenance and management of an interface engine. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with InterSystems’ HealthShare/Ensemble experience
  • Experience in scripting languages such as JavaScript and VBScript
  • Experience with web technologies and languages such as: HTML5, CSS3, Angular 4+, Bootstrap, NodeJS and NPM, SOAP and REST API service integration
  • Experience with writing queries, reading from and writing to SQL databases
  • Experience working in a RedHat Linux environment a plus
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented
